Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds (900 g) chicken wings, split at the joint and tips discarded
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper (freshly ground)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust for desired heat)
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 1 tablespoon black pepper (freshly ground)
- 1–2 teaspoons red chili flakes (adjust for desired heat)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
- Sliced green onions
- Sesame seeds
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). This high temperature is key for achieving that crispy skin on the wings.
- In a large bowl, combine the chicken wings with vegetable oil, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper. Toss well to ensure every wing is evenly coated.
- Spread the seasoned wings in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 30-35 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the wings are golden brown and crispy.
- While the wings are baking, prepare the spicy black pepper sauce. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, minced ginger, freshly ground black pepper, and red chili flakes. Stir well and bring to a simmer.
- In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water until smooth, then add it to the simmering sauce. Stir constantly until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
- Once the wings are done baking, remove them from the oven and toss them in the spicy black pepper sauce until fully coated.
- Return the coated wings to the baking sheet and bake for an additional 5 minutes to set the sauce.
- Finally, remove the wings from the oven, garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds, and serve hot.
