Description

Experience the ultimate comfort food with these crispy fries topped with juicy steak and gooey cheese. Perfect for a cozy gathering or a satisfying weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ribeye steak (or sirloin), thinly sliced
  • 1 bag frozen French fries (or homemade fries)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 ½ cups shredded provolone cheese (or mozzarella/cheddar blend)
  • ½ cup cheese sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • Optional toppings: jalapeños, hot sauce, parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) while you prepare the fries. This ensures they will be crispy and hot when the cheese melts.
  2. Cook the frozen French fries according to package instructions, which usually takes about 20-25 minutes, until they are golden brown and crispy. Set them aside on a baking sheet.
  3. In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium-high heat. Wait until the oil shimmers but doesn’t smoke—this usually takes about 1 minute.
  4. Add the thinly sliced ribeye steak to the skillet, seasoning with salt and black pepper. Cook for exactly 3-4 minutes until browned on the edges, stirring occasionally. Avoid overcrowding the pan to achieve a good sear!
  5. Remove the steak from the skillet and set it aside on a plate. In the same skillet, add the sliced onion, green bell pepper, and optional mushrooms. Sauté for 5-6 minutes until the vegetables are soft and lightly caramelized.
  6. Layer the crispy fries on the baking sheet, creating an even base. Top with the cooked steak, followed by the sautéed vegetables.
  7. Sprinkle 1 ½ cups of shredded provolone cheese generously over the top, then drizzle with ½ cup of cheese sauce for that extra gooey goodness.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Keep an eye on it to avoid burning the cheese!
  9. Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool for a minute. Garnish with optional toppings like jalapeños, hot sauce, or fresh parsley before serving.
