Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Extra melted butter for brushing
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients.
- Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the well along with the melted butter and eggs. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add more flour if the dough is too sticky.
- Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- In a medium bowl, combine the shredded mozzarella cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, chopped parsley, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix well.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle, approximately 12×18 inches.
- Brush the surface of the dough generously with melted butter.
- Evenly spread the garlic cheese filling over the buttered dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Starting from one long edge, roll the dough into a tight log.
- Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place each piece upright in a greased muffin tin, cut side up.
- Cover the muffin tin with a kitchen towel and let the cruffins rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brush the tops of the cruffins with more melted butter.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until puffed up and golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- Once slightly cooled, serve the cruffins warm and enjoy their cheesy, garlicky goodness!
Notes
- For an extra kick, feel free to add more red pepper flakes to the filling.
- These cruffins are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for a couple of days.
