  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar
  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • 1 cup of rolled oats
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup of flour
  • 1/2 cup of cold butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together 1 cup of unsalted butter and 1/2 cup of brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add 2 cups of all-purpose flour and a pinch of salt, mixing until the dough comes together.
  4. Press this mixture evenly into the bottom of your prepared baking dish.
  5. Peel, core, and slice about 4 cups of apples.
  6. In a separate bowl, toss the apples with 1/4 cup of sugar, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg.
  7. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the shortbread base.
  8. In another bowl, combine 1 cup of rolled oats, 1 cup of brown sugar, and 1/2 cup of flour.
  9. Cut in 1/2 cup of cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  10. Sprinkle this topping over the apples.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for about 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.
  12. Once baked, remove the bars from the oven and let them cool in the pan for at least 20 minutes.
