- sharp or medium cheddar cheese
- frozen tater tots
- finely diced white or red onion (optional)
- yellow mustard (optional)
- ketchup (optional)
- beef broth (optional)
- hot sauce (optional)
- cayenne pepper (optional)
- diced jalapeños (optional)
- smoked paprika (optional)
- different types of hot dogs (optional)
- sweet pickle relish (optional)
- sour cream (optional)
- ranch dressing (optional)
- sliced fresh or pickled jalapeños (optional)
- finely diced red onion or thinly sliced green onions (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Slice the hot dogs into bite-sized rounds, about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick. Optionally, pan-fry them for a minute or two.
- Warm the canned chili slightly on the stovetop or in the microwave for a few minutes.
- Pour about half of your warmed beef chili into the bottom of your prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly. Scatter the sliced hot dogs over the chili layer, then spread the remaining chili over the hot dogs.
- Sprinkle about one-third to half of your shredded cheese evenly over the chili and hot dog mixture.
- Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer over the cheese.
- Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese generously over the top of the tater tots.
- Bake for 30-40 minutes until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Optionally, broil for the last 2-3 minutes for extra crispiness.
- Let the bake rest for about 5-10 minutes before serving.
