Description

Indulge in the delightful fusion of crispy churros and soft French toast with this Churro Stuffed French Toast with Cinnamon Sugar. Each bite offers a warm, gooey filling enveloped in a sweet, cinnamon-sugar coating that will elevate your breakfast experience.

Ingredients

  • Thick-sliced challah or brioche bread
  • Full-fat cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • Powdered sugar
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Vanilla extract
  • Fresh, large eggs
  • Whole milk
  • Granulated sugar
  • Butter or neutral oil (like canola or grapeseed)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Beat until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
  2. Lay out your thick slices of challah or brioche. For each serving, take one slice and spread 2-3 tablespoons of the churro filling over one side. Place a second slice on top, pressing gently to create a sandwich. Repeat for all slices.
  3. In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In another shallow dish, whisk together 1/2 cup of granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon until combined.
  5. Heat a large non-stick griddle or skillet over medium heat. Add 1-2 tablespoons of butter or neutral oil and let it melt.
  6. Dip each stuffed sandwich into the egg custard for about 15-20 seconds per side, ensuring it absorbs some custard without becoming too soggy.
  7. Transfer the dipped sandwich to the griddle and cook for 3-5 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through. Adjust heat as necessary.
  8. Immediately transfer the cooked French toast to the cinnamon sugar mixture and dredge both sides, pressing lightly to adhere.
  9. Slice the French toast in half diagonally and serve warm, with optional toppings.
